"MONOP-NLP"
An account of the Foundation NLP Course by Sue Harrison & James Lea
We approached this foundation course with the usual curiosity, intrigue and excitement, having already completed a few but never really knowing what to expect.
There were ten of us on this course many of whom were nervous and apprehensive, but as always, this subsides pretty quickly during the course. Exercises such as ‘What is NLP?’ and ‘Hopes and Fears?’ were discussed amongst the group which led to some interesting and insightful feedback and observations right from the start. It quickly became evident on the first day that the group were fast learners and grasped the NLP concepts quickly. The word CONFUSION was occasionly mentioned and we were all reassured that this is the normal process!
Over the course we really started to connect and relate to each other because we felt safe and trusted each other. Every individual puts in a huge amount of effort and were being encouraged and supported by the rest of the group. This helped too create an environment which ranged from deep reflective moments to the usual moments of great humour, laughter and general chaos which is what makes these courses so special.
Many of us developed a greater self confidence and self belief, to a point where a change was clearly evident. We learnt, practiced and developed many NLP concepts including Reframing, Anchoring, Timeline and Chunking to name only a few. We also felt a great sense of achievement for completing the course.
On reflection, despite previous experience on the NLP courses, we both felt that this particular foundation course clarified our previous learning. It also created many enlightening moments allowing deeper and clearer understanding of not only the NLP but also development of self.
As always the course was rounded off with a group presentation; this time it was based on the idea of a board game called MonopNLP!! It was devised with all group members having an input. The presentation was great fun but also highlighted what individuals had learnt over the course which for me personally was a huge amount. Thanks too Marie and Tricia and the whole group who put so much effort into making it a great experience.
